I have been a massive fan of the beautiful game ever
since i was 6 years old. I have been supporting this team Manchester
United ever since i remember. United? Why? Well the reason for me
supporting united goes back to that auspicious day when my dad decided
to watch a united game which was being aired on ESPN.
My dad a part time football fan used to watch these games they aired on TV during the weekends. He didn't support any team in particular and was only interested in games that had lots of goals in them and united were renowned all over for their style of play and the amount of goals they scored in each game. Well the game was between united and a team called Charlton Athletic which are currently playing in League One in the third-tier of English football. Well they were pretty good at that time and i heard my dad saying "this will be a game with lots of goals in it". Since there was only one TV in the house and since i had already completed my homework i decided to watch the game in the hope that he will soon get bored and hand over the remote control.
Well the game started and united were playing away. Both the teams wore these cool jerseys and i was already impressed. Initially the match was pretty even, then there was some sheer brilliance from the united players and a baby faced boy who had a weird name opened the scoring for united. In time i came to know that this boy was called Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. It was hard to even remember these names forget spelling them. In a matter of minutes United were up 3-0 and the game ended 5-0 to United. Apart from the brilliant goals United totally dominated the game and i was mesmerized by this new team who were so good. I didn't watch any other sport apart from Cricket and only supported the Indian Cricket team, but this team had certainly made a mark in my heart.
"Manchester united" the name was on everybody's lips, it had a fan following all over the world, they played excellent football and their trophy cabinet was one to envy for. The moment i heard the name i knew that me and Manchester United were bound to be together till death.
Its been 15 years since that fateful day and here i am at home watching the next united game. The players have changed, the staff has changed, the baby faced boy, my favourite player is long gone. The manager is still the same although in premier league this is still a rarity with some teams changing their managers every season. Legends have been born, trophies won, players bought and sold, even the kits and the sponsors have changed. But the one thing that has never and will never change is my love and respect towards this great football club.
